Career Day Job & College Fair

New in 2017, we added a College Fair. This portion was geared to high school seniors and adults that are interested in furthering their education. The students that attended the Career Day toured the booths from 1:45 – 2:30. At 2:30 the booths opened to high school students, adults seeking higher education opportunities and job seekers.

Overview of our event:

The Career Day is one of the tools that we are using to address our future workforce needs. On March 7, 2017, 11 schools attended and brought 259 students to participate in this event. We start the day off with a keynote speaker, then break out into business panels.

Three members from our business community sit on each panel, the panels include the following business sectors: Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources; Communications & Information Systems; Skilled & Technical Sciences; Health Services; Human Services & Education; and Business, Marketing & Management. After the students rotate between panels we serve them lunch, followed by a presentation “It’s All About The Basics…and Beyond!”, and they end the day by touring the Job Fair booths. The concept is to educate our future workforce about the career opportunities here at home. We encourage our youth to pursue a higher education, whether it be a 4-year institution or a trade school, and after graduation return to the area to start their “American dream”.

Our Job & College Fair portion of this event is to address our current workforce needs by connecting job seekers and college students/graduates to businesses and high school seniors and adults to higher educational opportunities. We advertise the Tri-County Job Fair in the central and southeast region of Nebraska and beyond.

The York County and Hamilton County economic developers and chambers teamed up with the Nebraska Department of Labor, area schools and York College to put on the 3rd annual Tri-County Job Fair and Career Day!

Event facilitated by York County Development Corporation and produced in part by a grant from the York County Visitors Bureau.  For questions, call Deb or Lisa at 402-362-3333.
