Community CARES Stabilization Grant Information

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services announced late last week, the application process for three(3) grants related to CARES Act Funding received by the State. The first of these applications opened today with DHHS releasing the Community CARES Stabilization Grant materials on their website this morning and opened the portal for preparation and submission of applications.

The following details on the grant were received from Nebraska Children and Families. Key information includes:

• Applications open today, June 29, 2020 and close on July 6, 2020.
• A minimum of $12,000 will be awarded to chosen grantees, with a maximum award of $2 million. A total of $40 million will be awarded. The amount of each award will be determined by the state.

Generally, grant funds will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Applying as early as possible in the one-week application period (July 29 – July 6) improves your chances.

• Purpose: Stabilization grants will provide working capital to pay for operational expenses, with the purpose of helping sustain operations and continue to serve Nebraskans.
• Applications and Applicant Information Materials are available in Spanish
• Eligible applicants for CARES Stabilization grants are Nebraska-based charitable organizations, tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and certain providers of social services or health services that have sustained a loss of income/revenue and/or an increase of expenses since March 13, 2020, are eligible to apply.

• Specifically, the following providers are eligible:
  • Nebraska-based charitable organizations, tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
  • State of Nebraska-licensed health facility or services provider included in the categories below, with an active license issued by the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services:
  • Adult Day Services
  • Assisted-Living Facilities
  • Centers for the Developmentally Disabled
  • Child Placing Agencies
  • Children's Day Health Services
  • Health Clinics
  • Hospice Services
  • Intermediate Care Facilities for Persons with Developmental Disabilities
  • Mental Health Substance Abuse Treatment Centers
  • Residential Child-Caring Agencies
  • Rural Health Clinics
  • Respite Care Services
  • Community-Based Developmental Disability Agency, certified by the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services.
• Applicant organizations and providers must serve children, families, or communities consistent with the DHHS mission: to help people live better lives.

• INELIGIBLE Applicants are: 1) Units of local government and tribal governments, 2)  Hospitals, 3) Child care providers 4) Federally Qualified Health Centers, and 5) Regional Behavioral Health Authorities
