YORK COUNTY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION HOSTS NATIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WEEK CELEBRATION - MAY 6-11, 2019

Cities nationwide increase awareness of jobs and career development programs that enhance local economic impact.


YORK, NE May 2, 2018 – York County Development Corporation celebrates Economic Development Week from May 6-11. Economic Development Week was created and is coordinated by the International Economic Development Council. It is being held during the week of the organization’s 93rd anniversary as the largest professional membership organization for economic developers.

Economic development is the intentional practice of improving a community’s economic well-being and quality of life. It includes a broad-range of activities to attract, create, and retain jobs, and to foster a resilient, pro-growth tax base and an inclusive economy. The practice of economic development comprises of a collaborative effort involving industry, government and a myriad of community stakeholders. It includes business development, talent development/retention/recruitment and housing development.

“We are excited to launch an Economic Development Week campaign in York County.  Included in our 2019 EDW activities will be:

  • “Share your story” via Facebook using #YorkCoEconWeek, #WhyYorkCounty and #EDW2019. Please share your story! This may be a recent business expansion, your history, or even why you and your family chose York County.
  • York County Photo Contest:  Photos that were submitted will be gathered into a Facebook Album during Economic Development Week and Small Business Week (May 6th - May 10th), and the picture with the most Facebook “likes” will be declared the winner of the contest and receive $50 in Chamber Checks. The winner will be directly messaged by us through Facebook. Voting will take place online through Facebook, #YorkCountyPhotoContest.
  • New Business/Location Open House Tours May 7th 4:00 - 5:30
    • Stop by each of the following locations for refreshments :
    • Downtown York:
      • Peterson Petals, 609 N Lincoln Avenue
      • Once Upon a Dream, 726 N Lincoln Ave
      • Waterstone Mortgage, 400 Lincoln Avenue
    • South Lincoln Ave:
    • Before the tours start, stop down at YCDC, 601 N Lincoln Ave, to pick up your tour card for a chance at winning 1 of 3 prize packages. At each location, attendees will get a signature from the business on their card. Once finished with the tours, attendees will drop their card off with all four signatures at YCDC to be entered into a drawing for a chance to win prize baskets from York County Club, York ACE Hardware, Baer's Furniture, Dickys Barbecue Pit and Ginny's Hallmark.
