York General (York, Nebraska) is a community, not-for-profit, multi-facility organization. For over 100 years York General has provided quality patient/resident care, a broad range of services and a strong commitment to York and the surrounding communities through the dedicated efforts of caregivers and support staff. York General provides a vast array of services to the area through the hospital building, Hearthstone, Willow Brook, and the West View building.
York General Hospital is a 25-bed critical access facility offering a wide range of primary care and specialty services. One of those services is Emergency services. The Emergency Department at York General Hospital is equipped and staffed to handle all medical emergencies, including trauma and cardiac care. Each patient receives one-to-one care with rapid assessment and access to diagnostic services 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Another service provided by York General Hospital is Obstetrical Services. The Obstetrics Department provides family-centered maternity service in three private birthing suites, where mothers experience labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care. During labor and delivery, patients’ physicians monitor their progress and direct their care. In-house anesthesia services are available as needed for epidurals and cesarean births. The final York General Hospital service that is being highlighted is Surgical Services. York General Surgical Services offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient surgical treatment options. Local general and visiting specialty surgeons maintain regular schedules. The dedicated and experienced nursing staff works closely with the surgeons to assure positive outcomes as well as patient comfort and safety. In addition, there are three full-time York General Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) available 24 hours a day. They work as part of the team to provide appropriate pain management and support services. York General has three operating suites, a two-bed recovery room, and is currently in the process of renovating our eight-bed outpatient surgical area.
York General Hearthstone is a 129-bed skilled nursing facility that provides short and long-term care in a beautiful, home-like setting. Designed to promote quality living, the Hearthstone provides many premium features. The Hearthstone has been recognized for it award winning care in US News and World Report for Best Nursing Homes in 2016/17 & 2017/18. The Hearthstone’s environment is designed with two neighborhoods, each comprised of three “households”. The households accommodate 20 to 23 residents. Each has a country kitchen where meals are served and some of the facility’s activities are provided. All staff have specific training in geriatric care and are well prepared to assure that residents’ health and care needs are met. A local physician serves as Medical Director and provides review and oversight of the medical care at the Hearthstone. Area family physicians maintain regular schedules at the facility. Nursing staff, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medication aides, and nursing assistants, are available 24-hours a day. Physical, occupational, and speech therapists are available on site for residents. The Hearthstone offers a variety of activities to its residents. Activities promote physical, social, and emotional well-being and are tailored to individual needs. Activities include exercise, baking, card games, bingo, shopping trips, crafts, birthday parties, various entertainments and much more. In addition to indoor activities, when weather permits, households have access to patio areas and sidewalks for outdoor walks. Families and friends are encouraged to utilize the family dining room and small parlors that are available for dining with residents or to share some Schwann’s ice cream in the ice cream parlor.
York General Willow Brook is an assisted living facility established for persons needing various levels of daily assistance. Designed for independence and socialization, Willow Brook is an attractive choice for persons needing or wanting to change their living arrangements. Willow Brook Assisted Living provides housing, food service, personalized assistance and support, some limited health care services like assistance or reminders with medications, and a relatively high level of independence for individuals who prefer not to live alone, or for safety reasons should not live alone. Residents have opportunities for companionship and socialization, and if they choose, can continue all of the activities they were accustomed to before moving into assisted living. Willow Brook is staffed 24-hours per day by caring individuals who have been carefully screened and are well-trained in care and services that Willow Brook provides. Willow Brook offers reminders and assistance with medications, both prescription and over-the-counter supplements, herbal products, and treatments. Willow Brook Assisted Living has many attractive features including spacious apartments in studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom floor plans. Willow Brook also features a few fun amenities such as: Library with internet access, ice cream parlor, private family dining room, Exercise/Fitness Center, beauty salon, whirlpool spa, activity room, and a gathering room for group events and family functions.
West View Medical Building is located at 2319 North Lincoln Avenue, York. Departments located in this building include Home Health, Dialysis, Daycare, and administrative offices including Marketing, Safety, and Service Excellence. York General Home Health offers a broad range of services that support clients in their own home. It can serve as an alternative to hospitalization or nursing home placement. Medicare coverage is available to individuals certified by their physicians as home bound and in need of skilled services. York General Dialysis provides hemodialysis treatment in an 8-unit facility located at the West View Medical Building. Our facility serves patients within a 50-mile radius of York and also admits visiting patients in need of treatment. Individualized patient care with low patient-to-staff ratios is a top priority. Caregivers focus on all aspects of each patient’s health. Experienced nurses provide care and treatment, a dietitian and a social worker meet with each patient regularly, and the nephrologists make regular visits. The environment at York General Dialysis is welcoming and comfortable. Patients can be assured that the best possible technology is utilized in their hemodialysis treatments.

York General is also led by the CEO Jim Ulrich and an Advisory Board. The Chair of the Board is Jim Ulrich and Members include: Mitch Bartholomew-York High School, Miles Berg-York Dental Associates, Terri Carlson-Holthus Convention Center, Paul Hubert-Metz Mortuary, Jane Jensen-Jensen Lumber, Tony North-York Printing/North Office Supply. The York General Advisory Board will work with the Board of Directors and with CEO Jim Ulrich to ensure the future of strong local access to health care in York and the surrounding region.
