Description: Formed in 1970 through the merger of several public power organizations, the Nebraska Public Power District is the largest electric utility in the state. It has wholesale power supply agreements with 51 towns and 25 rural public power districts and cooperatives and serves 80 communities with retail power. The Nebraska Public Power District generates electricity using a variety of fuel sources, including uranium at its Cooper Nuclear Station, low-sulfur coal, natural gas, fuel oil, and hydroelectric generators. In addition, it is working toward a goal of producing 10% of its electric supply from renewable resources by 2020 through its wind farms and solar installation. Location: The Nebraska Public Power District maintains several locations throughout Nebraska. It has an Operations Center in York at 907 West 25th Street.
