Program Designed to Expand Knowledge of Manufacturing, Improve Public Perception of Manufacturing Career Opportunities and Thank Our Manufacturers

In celebration of National Manufacturing Day 2016, York County Development Corporation (YCDC) has coordinated two (2) separate events for October 7, 2016.  Manufacturing Day is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.  York County is celebrating on October 7, 2016 with Industry Tours for Educators and a Salute to Manufacturers Business After Hours.

Industry Tours for Educators

YCDC and York Public Schools (YPS) are excited to partner together for the Industry Tours for Educators, and are including resource partners and other area schools.  Attendees will meet at YPS District Offices, then tour Central Valley Ag’s Headquarters along with one of their fertilizer facilities. A special thanks to Central Valley Ag for hosting lunch.  Attendees will then visit CTEC AG. These businesses are opening their doors on Oct. 7th as part of an effort to change people’s perceptions about today’s manufacturing environment and draw attention to the outstanding opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide.   “We feel it is important for educators to reach out to the business sector to see how we might better prepare our students for the workforce.” – Mike Lucas

Salute to Manufactures Business After Hours featuring Lt. Governor Mike Foley

Please join YCDC Board of Directors on Friday at 5:00PM in thanking the men and women in York County’s manufacturing industry. Manufacturing is an important economic component to York County.  This event will include Lt. Governor Mike Foley speaking on how Nebraska is working to advance manufacturing and skilled workforce, followed by a question and answers session.

About National Manufacturing Day

Manufacturing Day is an annual national event executed at the local level, and supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.  Manufacturing Day was created to correct public perception, which doesn’t do manufacturing justice. Manufacturing environments, which include highly trained, well-paid employees who work on state-of-the-art equipment, are commonly thought of as antiquated factories designed for low-skilled workers. Manufacturing Day addresses this misperception by giving all manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, exactly what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. More information on Manufacturing Day is available at www.mfgday.com.
