Medical Outpatient Coder
Responsibilities
This is a part time position that can be combined with the other HIM posted positions to provide full time hours. NATURE OF WORK: Thoroughly analyzes outpatient and/or inpatient records. Identifies all diagnoses and procedures and assigns the appropriate codes from the latest revisions of the International Classification of Diseases and Current Procedural Terminology. Work requires total accuracy and consistency, as failure to code records accurately, completely, and quickly will have a monetary impact on hospital reimbursement. Establishes regular communication with the medical staff and other hospital departments.
Qualifications
Thorough knowledge or the desire to learn ICD and CPT coding principles and procedures. Thorough knowledge of medical terminology. Thorough knowledge of Human Anatomy and Physiology. Ability to work effectively with the Medical staff and other hospital personnel. Ability to operate computer and various software including Microsoft Office based platforms and coding encoder. Must maintain confidential patient information and maintain integrity.
