3 Big-Picture Ways YCDC Served Its Stakeholders in 2024

December is often a time to reflect on the past year and the highs and lows that came with it. At the York County Development Corporation (YCDC), we use this month to confirm that we served our stakeholders to the best of our abilities. We want to confirm that we did everything we could to promote sustainable growth in York County for both new and existing businesses.
“We’ve continued to make meaningful progress toward strengthening our local economy and enhancing the quality of life for all residents in York County,” says Lisa Hurley, Executive Director of YCDC. “Economic development doesn’t just benefit business owners, it also increases the number of opportunities and resources for families in the region.”
If you haven’t been keeping up with everything York County has accomplished this year, then you’ve been missing out. Here are a few ways our team served the region and strived to make York County a great place to work and live.
YCDC Promoted York County on a National Level
YCDC continues to invest in marketing opportunities to promote the region and attract new businesses and residents to York County. Our team invested significant time and resources to promote this region and make it known across the United States. Here are a few notable accomplishments from these efforts:
- YorkDevco.com had 27,750 users with 92,262 views.
- The YCDC Facebook page reached 70,300 users and has 2,200 followers.
- More than 14,000 users have searched our directory to find businesses, allowing us to promote local industries and foster growth.
- The 17 County Podcast was listened to 7,000 times in the past 12 months. It currently has 34,000 listens across 109 episodes.
York County also continues to benefit from the SizeUp tools on the YCDC website. These tools provide free insights for business owners and entrepreneurs in the area. These tools were used 367 times this year.
YCDC Supported Talent Development by Connecting With Local Youth
YCDC develops, attends, and participates in various events throughout the year. In-person events are a great way to connect with community members and highlight all of the exciting things happening in York County. In 2024, YCDC participated in several events that were designed to connect the local workforce to York businesses, supporting talent retention and development. A few of these events include:
- Regional Career Day
- York University Career Day
- The Employer Round Table at York University
- Industry and community tours
- Manufacturing visits to schools
- The career booth at the York County Fair
- Employ York
YCDC wants to inspire younger residents to stay in York County after they complete their degrees while also highlighting unique careers in manufacturing and other local fields which may not need a degree. That said, YCDC's talent efforts also focus on upskilling the current workforce to better prepare employees for industry changes.
YCDC Worked With Local Businesses During Growth Periods
There’s been a lot to celebrate in York County in 2024. Some new businesses have moved to the area, while others have expanded their operations. YCDC has supported these companies through their expansion projects and highlighted them to the local community. We’re excited to see how these companies grow.
- Klute Inc., a pivotal partner in the manufacturing sector, opened its third building, increasing production capacity and job opportunities.
- Preferred Snacks completed an expansion by adding equipment and creating jobs.
- Sukup Manufacturing opened its new warehouse.
- Nexat arrived in York after seeing the value this community could provide as a leader in agriculture innovation.
- Green Plains opened a new biofuel production facility and welcomed the community to an open house celebrating the event.
YCDC is already preparing to celebrate businesses in 2025. Pump and Pantry has started construction on its new building, while Fairfield Inn & Suites has broken ground and will open in early 2026. From the first site tours to the official grand opening, YCDC stands by York County businesses.
Your Support Helps Us Build on Our Success in 2025
This was a strong year for York County, and more industries and businesses are noticing this region. There are multiple housing projects in the planning phases as well.
