Henderson Health Care Supports Patients and Employees
October 31, 2025
Residents of Henderson, Nebraska, have a leading healthcare facility right in their backyard. Henderson Health Care has 170 employees who offer emergency services, specialty care, and long-term living.
“We provide high-quality treatment to our patients and are always expanding to better serve them,” says Luke Fochtman, Marketing and Public Relations Director at Henderson Health Care. “We have a large healthcare campus for what some would consider a small community.”
Henderson has a population of 1,000 residents, but its size doesn’t limit its healthcare capabilities. In fact, the continued investment in healthcare makes Henderson an attractive option for multi-generational families in the region.
Henderson Boasts a 40-Bed Long-Term Care Facility
One of the best parts of the Henderson Health Care system is Legacy Square, the long-term care facility that opened in 2019. The hospital demolished the previous facility, which had been built in the 1950s, and replaced it with a state-of-the-art nursing home for senior residents and those who cannot care for themselves.
Legacy Square has two dining rooms, a courtyard, walking paths, greenery, and a large living area with a warm fireplace. Each room has the amenities you expect to find in an apartment, except for a kitchen. There are also two double-occupancy rooms, so a husband and wife can move in together.
The staff at Legacy Square plans dozens of activities throughout the week, from coffee meetups to animal therapy.
“York County residents are always asking to move in here,” says Fochtman. “It feels like many rural long-term care facilities are closing, so it means a lot that we could build a brand new one and have it thrive.”
Since Legacy Square opened, its occupancy has not dropped below 85%. It is currently at 98% capacity.
Legacy Square Keeps Families Together
Legacy Square allows York County residents to live their final years in the same community where they grew up – or in a community they love and moved to.
Having a close facility where a beloved parent or sibling lives reduces barriers to visitation. Families can spend more time together because children and grandchildren don’t have to drive to Lincoln, an hour away.
“Families can enjoy peace of mind knowing their loved ones are in a high-quality living space,” says Fochtman. “They are also in the good hands of our employees. Many of our team members have been here for a long time, and our administration is passionate about what they do.”
Legacy Square has a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Its health inspections, staffing, and quality care measures are labelled “much above average” compared to other Nebraska and national nursing homes.
Henderson Attracts Nurses With CNA Training Programs
Communities across the United States are struggling to staff their hospitals. There is currently a shortage of 78,610 full-time registered nurses (RNs), following a significant departure from the field during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hospitals are working to find quality employees at all levels of care, from specialized physicians to entry-level support workers.
Henderson Health Care is actively taking steps to increase its staffing while creating career paths for residents. It covers the training costs to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and hosts the training at its facilities. Prospective CNAs can learn what it’s like on the job and take the first steps toward lasting nursing careers.
“A CNA is a very flexible job for somebody who is still in high school or taking college classes,” says Fochtman.
Henderson Health Care also attracts talent with generous pay packages, healthcare benefits, paid time off, referral bonuses, and a signing bonus ranging from $2,000 to $7,000, depending on the position.
“Henderson is a beautiful community with great schools, high-level daycares, a quality nursing home, and a hospital full of specialty clinics,” says Fochtman. “It’s a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”
