Baer’s Furniture Has Supported York Customers Since 1879

November 17, 2025

Residents of York County, Nebraska, can support a local business by shopping at Baer’s Furniture. The store has been a staple of downtown York since 1879. Its owners, Brett and Ashley Gulbrandson, took over the store in 2022 but have strong roots in the region.

“I was born and raised in York,” says Brett. “My mom's family has farmed in York County for generations and still is. I am proud to live in York County and have my daughters experience many of the wonderful things about the community I was able to while growing up.”

This connection to York makes Gulbrandson an effective business owner. He cares deeply about his customers because they are his friends and neighbors. Learn more about his experience running a business in York County.

Baer’s Furniture Offers a Variety of Home Furnishing Options

Customers can visit Baer’s Furniture when looking for specific items, like dining sets or sofas, for their homes. However, the store offers additional products for furnishing a space, including mattresses and entertainment consoles. The wide selection of outdoor furniture and accessories helps residents enjoy the beautiful Nebraska climate even as the weather gets cooler.

Baer’s is known for its seasonal sales, furniture sets, and financing options. This allows York residents to find their ideal items without stressing over the costs.

Gulbrandson is Motivated by His Customers

When asked what he loves about doing business in York County, Gulbrandson mentions the community and the people starting the next chapter of their lives in the region.

“Helping customers find the perfect items for their home is rewarding,” he says. “I always enjoy meeting someone moving to York and buying furniture for their new home, or catching up with people I have known for years. We strive to make sure people love being home.”

This makes Gulbrandson one of the first people new residents meet in York County. Before they can visit the local schools to enroll their kids or participate in nearby activities or church events, new families need mattresses to sleep on and tables to eat their meals.

York Offers Plenty of Activities for His Family

For Gulbrandson, York County is home. It’s where he chooses to live and where his daughters will grow up. He mentions that his whole family enjoys living here, from his mom’s family working the farm to his kids participating in various activities.

“My girls have been active in basketball, dance, soccer, and track,” he says. “They love going to the community center to hang out with friends and spend tons of time at the York family aquatic center during the summer.”

Gulbrandson also mentions the various activities led by the Parks and Recreation Department throughout the year. These allow kids to make friends and have fun while spending time outside in Nebraska.

When asked about the future, Gulbrandson is optimistic. He believes York County will continue to grow and offer people more opportunities. He looks forward to meeting and helping the new families coming to York.

York County Provides a Welcoming Environment for Families

New residents can easily find a sense of community in York, whether they want to get involved in the local arts scene or network with other entrepreneurs. There are plenty of activities for kids and adults alike.
