The York County Public Defender's Office is seeking a full-time Legal Secretary. Applicants should have excellent organizational, administrative, IT and communication skills; legal office experience preferred. 

Work hours are from 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

Prepares and processes all cases; creates new physical case files and enters digital record in Defender Data software. 

Maintains an up-to-date record of cases through opening to disposition. 

Case management of all office files, both open and closed. 

Prepares legal documents and correspondence of a legal nature such as misdemeanor and felony motions. 

Filing of legal documents through the Courts. 

Preparation of District Court and County Court calendars; reviews files, set up and schedule calendar for attorneys to review. 

Generate daily reports from case management program. 

Prepares claims for accounts payable and tracks department budget. 

Other office duties as needed.

Qualifications

Prior experience in the legal field is preferred. 

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, including Excel. 

The applicant should be detail-oriented, have excellent communication, typing, and computer skills, and be aware of the confidentiality of legal matters.
